How it works
The Svalbard adventure is a 4 days tour that starts and ends in Longyearbyen. For several days, you’re hiking, snowshoeing, dog sledding and chasing the Northern lights in the remote region of Spitzbergen. The trip is led by an experienced local guide and includes everything needed: e.g. local transportation, accommodation (huts), as well as special equipment and meals during the trip.
Your adventure starts & you’re picked-up from in Longyearbyen in the evening (7pm). You’ll make your way out of town to the Trappers Station, where around 100 huskies live and the chances of seeing the northern lights are good due to this dark and remote location. From here you take off for the first short night of Northern Lights chasing as conditions are perfect due to lesser light pollution. Later at night you’ll have dinner & sleep in real wooden tepees shared with other explorers. But no worries, there are warm sleeping bags and on reindeer skins to sleep in.
In the morning you’ll start the day right with breakfast inside the teepee (Lavvo in Norwegian). Depending on the snow conditions, today you’ll either go for a dogsledding trip or an exciting hike in the area outside of the cabin. The area around the wildly located cabin is not influenced by unnatural light, and therefore the opportunities for seeing the amazing northern lights are better than in Longyear City. After this great adventure in the dark wilderness of Svalbard, you head back into the town of Longyear where you’ll stay for the night in a hotel. Tonight you have the freedom to explore the local area outside of our itinerary, and we recommend you find a fantastic spot to enjoy a nice dinner.
Today, you are going on a snowshoeing hike in the outside areas of Longyearbyen. This is one of the best ways to move around in Arctic winter terrain. Equipped with snowshoes fixed to your boots and a headlamp, you’ll head out into the dark arctic winter. Few places in the world are as silent and calming as the polar night. After this amazing experience out in little explored nature you’re free in the evening to go for dinner.
Today is your last day in this magnificent town and you’re free to discover more of this incredible surroundings. Then it’s time to say goodbye and your Northern lights adventure comes to an end.
